Daniel

I have spent 4 days in the book of Daniel.  Much of the interpretation of dreams I still do not comprehend, and it may requires commentaries to fully understand.  However, what I have seen is the strong character of Daniel, and how faithful his God is. 

Daniel has incredible wisdom, as he understands “all visions and dreams.”  He is faithful in prayer and faithful to his God in actions.  He is strong in his convictions, as he “would not defile himself with the king’s food” and he would also “get on his knees three times a day” to pray, although that would eventually lead him to be thrown in the lion’s den.  Daniel gave sound advice to his friends when he tells them to “seek mercy from the God of heaven concerning this mystery” of Nebuchadnezzar’s dream.  Daniel praised God often, being humble and gentle with his prayers and his words.  He was also faithful to his friends when he requested that the king promote Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.  Daniel spoke Truth to the king even though he could have lost his life.  He was painfully aware of how personal sin can affect others and a nation.  He pleaded for the king and others to repent of their sin and show “mercy to the oppressed.”  Daniel was thankful for God’s provisions, and understood the theology of suffering.  Daniel was found “blameless” before God and was completely open to being used for God’s purposes.  Although there was many times that he did not understand why God allowed him to interpret dreams, and many times when he became “anxious” because of the implication of these dreams, he still allowed himself to be used by God.  Daniel believed that God is righteous and powerful, and through Gabriel, God tells Daniel that he is “greatly loved.”
